Developing a love of Art from young is very important, since it offers a safe, creative outlet for self expression. Art helps to develop many crucial life skills, including, but not limited to: creativity, motor skills, self-confidence, visual learning skills, decision making/problem solving/critical thinking, language development, and perseverance.
Therefore, allowing your child to experiment with art and various art materials at home is highly recommended. These materials can be quite basic, such as a sketch pad, pencils for drawing, coloured pencils and markers. Other materials for your consideration include kiddy safe scissors, school glue, coloured paper (construction paper) for tearing and sticking, old magazines and modeling clay.
Really, the list is hindered only by one’s imagination, so go ahead! Encourage your children to express themselves through Art, and while you’re at it, who knows? You just might discover a hidden Artist within yourself!
